Admission to the graduate program in Information Systems requires a baccalaureate degree from regionally accredited institutions. Admission will be granted to students showing high promise of success in the program.

Admission Requirements (students earning undergraduate degrees in the US):

  • Minimum cumulative adjusted grade-point average of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale. Applicants must submit official undergraduate transcripts to the Graduate Office.
  • A satisfactory score on the GMAT/GRE. Applicants must submit a GMAT or GRE exam score. A successful applicant will typically score:
    • at least of 30 in the verbal category, 30 in the quantitative category and 3.0 in the analytical writing category of the GMAT
      OR
    • at least 400 in the verbal category, 400 in the quantitative category and 3.0 in the analytical writing category of the GRE.
  • Completion of Preparatory Knowledge Clusters through undergraduate course work, work experience, or advanced standing exams. Including:
    • Basic knowledge of computer information systems, or CSIS 2300
    • Quantitative skills including calculus or statistics, or MATH 3010/3400
    • Programming skills in Java, C++ or Visual Basic, or CSIS 2301
    • Familiarity with systems analysis and design methodologies, or CSIS 3600
    • Experience using relational or object-based database management systems, or CSIS 3310
  • Submission of a Statement of Interests: describe why you are interested in the MSIS degree program and how the program fits with your career/educational goals.
  • Submission of a resume that describes any computer experience in detail.
  • Submission of appropriate immunization records upon acceptance to KSU.

Preparatory Knowledge Clusters (PKC)

The MSIS program course work is developed on the assumption that students will be prepared to succeed in the 8000-level courses. For those students who do not have sufficient preparatory knowledge, several alternatives exist:

  • The applicant may take undergraduate courses in the fundamental technologies and functional areas of information systems.
  • The applicant may take non-credit preparatory courses to meet this requirement.
  • The student may submit a portfolio of work for evaluation for exempting one or more preparatory courses.

Other criteria will be considered by the MSIS Admissions Committee for applicants, including:

  • Performance on previous computer science, information systems, and management course work.
  • GPA attained in other junior/senior level course work.
  • Certificates of attainment in computing-related training / self-study programs.
  • Accomplishment in professional activities.
  • Relevant work experience.
